Hattingley Valley returns to the nationally acclaimed annual Watercress Festival in the pretty market town of Alresford, Hampshire, which is famous for growing watercress.
The buzzing street festival attracts thousands of visitors each year who have the opportunity to sample other local produce in addition to the watercress. Hattingley’s vineyards and winery are approximately 5 miles away so it is only fitting for us to take part in the celebrations.
Our friendly team will be found on Broad Street, near to the main stage, where they will be serving our sparkling wines by the glass to enjoy whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the festival. Bottles will be available to purchase in gift boxes to take away and savour another day.
About Alresford Watercress Festival:
On the third Sunday of May each year, this beautiful market town becomes the site of a huge street festival. Over 80 stalls showcase the very best local food and drink producers. Others sell arts, crafts, jewellery and clothing, items for house, garden and much else besides.
At 10.00am a large cavalcade of musicians, dancers and children accompany the Watercress King and Queen up Broad Street as they distribute freshly cut bunches of watercress to festival goers.
Throughout the day, musicians and street performers entertain on the main stage, in St. John’s Church and on the streets. For the young, there are circus skills workshops, face painting, Punch & Judy shows, petting farm and much more.
Well-known chefs will demonstrate delicious watercress-inspired dishes. And more adventurous visitors can take up the challenge of the World Watercress Eating Championships - now in the Guinness Book of World Records.
